Implants
In times of the ever more important role of media our appearance
becomes more important, too. TV, magazines and the omnipresent
advertisements show us faces of beautiful, happy, satisfied, and
healthy people, especially those with a beautiful smile. A perfect
smile has become synonymous for happiness, success, and love of
life.
With the help of modern dentures technology you can attain a fantastic
appearance. It is the task of the specialist to recreate the natural
teeth, taking into account the individual expectations of the patient
like colour shades and form. To carry out an implantologic treatment
gives the patient a new quality of life. The look is clearly improved,
the patient feels more comfortable, self-esteem and attractiveness
are greater, his self-assurance returns.
Indications and contra-indications
Dental implants can be used by the majority of adults. They are
indicated in almost all cases of tooth gaps (gaps of one or more
teeth and toothless jaws) and as a replacement for own teeth that
have a bad prognosis. Implants are especially indicated for older
toothless patients for whom already the insertion of two implants
brings a clear improvement of the dentures stability.
People who are adviced to get implants should not wait too long
for the operation because in cases of longer postponements it may
become necessary to build up bone substance again first, so the
implant can be inserted. This would lead to higher treatment costs
and to a longer duration of the treatment.
For children implants are mostly not used because their teeth
are still growing.
Scientific basis
Dental implants have now been used for decades, accompanied by
scientific studies. These help to improve the quality in this branch
of stomatology.
To carry out these operations gives the dentists the opportunity
to keep in contact with the latest achievements of science. The
use of implants is a standard operation in modern dental practice
as this is the only way to guarantee highest standard and comfort
for the patient. The implantological treatment starts after a complex
diagnosis that secures the precision, the highest quality level,
and the safety of the operation. The risks of any failures in this
kind of therapy are comparable to those of conventional dentures
treatments, as reliable studies have shown.
The operation
The insertion of the implant happens during a surgical operation
under local anaesthesia. The implants (metal elements - titanium)
are to replace the root of the tooth and they are built in the
jaw in the area of the gap. Then prosthetic elements (crowns) are
fixed onto the implant that were manufactured by highly specialized
dentures technicians with the help of special computer facilities,
treating each case individually.
The duration
After the necessary diagnostic preparations, the operation itself
can be carried out within a day. The healing process in which the
implant and the bone grow together, will take six weeks to six
months, though. In case of a bone reconstruction the therapy may
as well tke one to two years.
To reduce the inconveniences for the patient during the treatment,
it is possible to carry out a temporary prosthetic treatment of
the jaw.
The costs
The implantological therapy is still widely regarded as luxury
but the number of its supporters is rising continuously. The price
is justified by the end result which is more comfortable than with
a traditional prosthetic treatment. Furthermore the implants are
more durable than conventional dentures or bridges and they have
a long-term guarantee.
The treatment costs of the implantological operation are 2 to
4 times higher than those of conventional methods which is due
to the highly modern and cost intensive technology. Also the materials
that are used are different what the price is concerned, but still
it is adviced to use the best, highly renowned, and most durable
Swedish implant systems of Nobel Biocare (Branemark System, Replace
System) and the full ceramic crowns of PROCERA.
The advantages
The teeth that have been thus manufactured, have a natural appearance
and can hardly be distinguished from the patient's own teeth. They
reflect light just as natural teeth and react to fluorescent light
in just the same way. In the end the better aesthetics is of high
importance. An advantage of the implantological therapy that shouldn't
be underestimated is the fact that healthy teeth often don't need
to be polished like they have to when conventional bridges are
used in traditional prosthetic procedures.
